Fatherhood Mentoring & Men's Health
In this powerful meeting of the Men's Health & Wellbeing Group, members share deeply personal experiences of growing up without fathers, rebuilding broken relationships, overcoming adversity and learning what it truly means to become a positive role model. Our guest speaker, Andrew Kissumba, shares his remarkable journey of losing his father as a child during the Idi Amin regime in Uganda and explains how mentoring, community and consistency transformed his life.

Men’s health is not only about what happens in the doctor’s surgery. It is about whether we talk when something is wrong, whether we know where to get support, whether we make time for our wellbeing, and whether we put the right plans in place for the people we love.

Most of us carry worries that never come to pass. But when a health problem does arrive, it can turn your whole world upside down. That is why we have to talk, check in on one another, take responsibility for our health where we can, and stop suffering in silence.

When men get together and speak openly, the conversation can go places that do not normally get said out loud. Relationships with fathers, the pressure of parenting, grief, regret, health, community, and the question of how we become a better example for the next generation.

“I've found the group to be right on time with where I was at with my health journey. I knew I needed to pay more attention to my health I just didn't know where to start, the group has helped me with knowledge and support. Offering a space to gradually get back into being more actively with the weekly walking football. Great stuff and well needed resource for men.”

“I joined the Men's Health and Wellbeing Group because I was referred by a healthcare professional to connect with other men and receive support through my mental health journey. I've found it a really safe and welcoming space to have a chat and learn more about various topics.”

“The group is a great community to be a part of, informative talks from industry professionals and the opportunity to get questions answered. Would recommend to any men to join if you're looking for friends, support and a new outlook on your health. This is a gamechanger and something that I think more people should know about.”

“I came to one of the Men's Health and Wellbeing events, Prostate Cancer Awareness and it was great to hear from 3 professional guest speakers with Prostate expertise and real life experiences, that were able to answer questions, signpost to resources and allow for discussion. Really well organised event and I now look forward to attending the next monthly meeting!”
